Pregnancy Clinical Pilates

Postpartum clinical pilates is a great way of being active safely after pregnancy. Clinical Pilates helps assist with the physical challenges of early motherhood through whole body strength, coordination, and flexibility training.

Pregnancy Clinical Pilates

Postnatally, specific abdominal exercises are introduced to try and encourage the reapproximation of any separation that might have occurred during pregnancy.

Pregnancy Clinical Pilates

What are the benefits

Pregnancy Clinical Pilates comes with a bunch of great benefits for soon-to-be mums, aiming to make your pregnancy journey smoother and your body healthier. Here’s what you can gain:

  1. Stronger Core and Stability: Pregnancy Clinical Pilates focuses on those deep core muscles that help support your spine and pelvis. Strengthening them can ease back pain, improve posture, and give better support to your growing belly.
  2. Healthy Pelvic Floor: We pay special attention to your pelvic floor muscles, which are crucial during pregnancy to keep your pelvic organs comfy and ready for childbirth. They’re also handy for your post-baby recovery.
  3. Flexibility and Better Movement: Pregnancy Clinical Pilates involves gentle stretches and controlled movements that can make you more flexible and help you move around with more ease. This is especially helpful when pregnancy might be making you feel a bit stiff.
  4. Improved Posture: Pregnancy can mess with your posture as your belly grows. But Clinical Pilates can help you stand and sit in the right way, reducing strain on your muscles and joints.
  5. Relief from Aches: If you’re experiencing aches and pains, Clinical Pilates can help ease common pregnancy discomforts like back pain, hip issues, and sciatica. By targeting and stretching specific muscles, you might find some relief.
  6. Calmer Breathing: Breathing is a big deal. Pregnancy Clinical Pilates teaches you how to breathe effectively using your diaphragm. This not only reduces stress but also boosts oxygen supply to you and your baby.
  7. Body Awareness: Pregnancy Clinical Pilates helps you understand and connect with your changing body. It’s like having a guide that helps you feel what’s happening and make mindful choices.
  8. Preparation for Labor: Strengthening your core, pelvic floor, and deep muscles can give you better muscle control during labor, making the childbirth process a bit smoother.
  9. Safe Exercise: Don’t worry, mum! Pregnancy Clinical Pilates is tailored just for you, with safe exercises suitable for each stage of your pregnancy.
  10. Quicker Recovery: The core and pelvic floor love you after childbirth too. They help you bounce back and regain strength post-baby.
  11. Better Mood: Moving around with Pregnancy Clinical Pilates can boost your mood and help you stay calm. It’s like a happiness boost that keeps stress away and makes you feel more empowered.

Remember, it’s a good idea to chat with your doctor before starting any exercise routine during pregnancy, including Pregnancy Clinical Pilates. And having a certified instructor who understands pregnancy exercise can give you extra confidence and safety.

What are common concerns many women have prior to starting Postpartum Clinical Pilates?

  • Low Back Pain: Pregnancy often leads to changes in spinal posture due to the growing baby, causing discomfort. Pilates offers a gentle approach to reconditioning the core and correcting these altered postures.
  • Thoracic Pain: Pain and stiffness in the upper to mid-back and ribs can arise during pregnancy and persist postnatally, especially with the added demands of caring for a newborn and breastfeeding. Clinical Pilates aids in strengthening the back muscles, supporting posture, and reducing stress in the mid-back area.
  • Pubic Symphysis Pain: This discomfort in the pubic region is often aggravated by standing on one leg or walking extensively. Pilates focuses on strengthening pelvic muscles to alleviate stress on the pubic symphysis and provide relief from pain.
  • Sacroiliac Joint Pain: After childbirth, the integrity of the Sacroiliac ligaments can be compromised. Clinical Pilates can assist in restoring these ligaments’ stability, which may become lax during the birthing process.
