Myotherapy treatment at Advanced Health Preston

Myotherapy Preston

Expert muscle therapy for chronic pain, sports injuries, and postural problems — in the heart of Preston.

Myotherapy is an evidence-based form of manual therapy that assesses, treats and manages musculoskeletal pain and injury. Our myotherapists at Advanced Health Preston combine hands-on treatment with exercise rehabilitation to get you moving without pain.

What is Myotherapy?

Myotherapy is a specialised form of physical therapy focused on the assessment and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions — particularly those involving muscles, fascia, and connective tissue. Myotherapists complete an advanced diploma or bachelor-level qualification that includes detailed study of anatomy, pathology, and manual therapy techniques.

Unlike general remedial massage, myotherapy takes a clinical approach: your myotherapist will assess your posture, movement patterns, and pain history before developing a personalised treatment plan. Sessions may include trigger point therapy, dry needling, cupping, joint mobilisation, and corrective exercises.

Conditions We Treat

  • Chronic back and neck pain
  • Sports injuries (muscle strains, tendinopathies)
  • Tension headaches and migraines
  • Shoulder pain and rotator cuff problems
  • Hip, knee, and ankle pain
  • Sciatica and referred leg pain
  • Repetitive strain injury (RSI)
  • Postural dysfunction from desk work
  • Plantar fasciitis and Achilles tendinopathy
  • Fibromyalgia and chronic widespread pain

Myotherapy Techniques

Trigger Point Therapy

Direct pressure on hyperirritable muscle knots to release tension and restore normal muscle function.

Dry Needling

Fine acupuncture needles inserted into trigger points to deactivate muscle knots and reduce pain — often producing immediate results.

Cupping Therapy

Suction cups applied to skin to increase blood flow, release fascial restrictions, and reduce muscle soreness.

Corrective Exercise

Targeted exercises to address muscle imbalances and movement dysfunction — key for long-term recovery.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between myotherapy and remedial massage?

Myotherapy is a more advanced and clinical form of manual therapy. Myotherapists hold higher-level qualifications (Advanced Diploma or Bachelor) and are trained to diagnose and treat musculoskeletal conditions using a broader range of techniques — including dry needling, cupping, and joint mobilisation — not just massage. Remedial massage focuses primarily on soft tissue manipulation.

Does private health insurance cover myotherapy?

Yes. Most private health funds with extras cover include myotherapy. You can claim your rebate on the spot at our Preston clinic using HICAPS.

How many sessions will I need?

Most patients notice significant improvement within 2–4 sessions. Chronic conditions may require a longer treatment course. Your myotherapist will assess you thoroughly in the first appointment and give you a realistic treatment plan.

Where are you located?
